Catholic Sisters Week 2021: Sister Theresa Sullivan

March 8th was International Women’s Day and it is also the start of Catholic Sisters Week, so we will spend this week highlighting the Daughters of Charity.

This group of sisters live on our campus. Some of them work with our school, some of them do other things in our community.

First up we have Sister Theresa Sullivan who many in the Middle Georgia community are aware is the Director of Daybreak: a resource center for the homeless population in our community. According to their website “every weekday in Macon, an average of 100 homeless men and women visit Depaul USA Daybreak to receive services that help them overcome the immediate crisis of homelessness”.

“Sister Theresa is one of the most compassionate people and, yet, also a force of nature that I think we've ever had here in Macon,” said Jeff Battcher, a volunteer for Daybreak and Board of Directors member for Depaul USA. “She has been instrumental in expanding the services of Daybreak and also so helpful in helping us see the vision of what we could create as far as creating a respite which we’re going to be doing and she’s been so helpful in raising money. Because of Sister Theresa Daybreak is truly becoming a fantastic organization for our homeless brothers and sisters.”

“She is one of the best I’ve ever seen at getting people to want to help her out and she doesn’t mind asking anybody for anything and she gets very positive results. Half of the time I think they leave feeling like she’s done them a favor! She has been wonderful for Daybreak in how she reaches out to the community. She’s phenomenal,” said Kay Gerhardt, Board Chair for Depaul USA.

We are so lucky to have Sister Theresa and all of the Daughters of Charity here in Macon!
