St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) is our patron saint of animals and environment and could be viewed as the original Earth Day advocate.
St Francis' devotion to God was expressed through his love for all of God's creation. St. Francis cared for the poor and sick, he preached sermons to animals and praised all creatures as brothers and sisters under God.
Today, Fr. Bill, Fr. Casey and all of our Franciscan Friars continue to show us how to embrace all creatures and offer respect, dignity and care to each one.
Following the example of St. Francis, we must all take very seriously our obligation to care for all of God’s creation.
