ALUMNI HEARTS OF SERVICE - Lauralen Avery, Class of 1980

Lauralen spends every day in service of the Macon community. She is the First Steps Coordinator at United Way of Central Georgia. First Steps Georgia supports any parent expecting a child and any caregiver for a child less than five years old. The program gives parents information on how best to keep their child health and safe and offers assistance to help with the best community resources parents could want. Last year Lauralen was recognized as Georgia's First Steps Coordinator of the Year. She was recognized because she began the First Steps program in Macon and six years later it is one of the top performing programs in Georgia. The secret to her success? The genuine love and caring she has for the moms and newborns of our community. Lauralen continues to serve our community in other ways as well. She is on the board of directors for the Ruth Hartley Mosely Center and is an active member of the Macon Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. We love our alumni and their hearts of service.
