ALUMNI HEARTS OF SERVICE - Georgia Milton-Sheats, Class of 1974
Georgia Milton-Sheats has been the CEO of Special Olympics Georgia since March 1999, where the mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. Georgia has also served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Special Olympics International since 2012, where she is the Chairwoman of the International Advisory Committee.
In addition, Georgia has held various positions on the board of the U.S. Special Olympics. She is also a member of the North America Leadership Council (since 2010), and she served as a member of the Risk Management and Insurance Task Force for Worldwide Special Olympics in 2010-2011.
Georgia is a graduate of the University of Georgia, and she is active in many local organizations, including as a sustaining member of the Atlanta Junior League, a Girl Scout troop leader, a former leader in Atlanta’s Northside Youth Organization, the Corresponding Secretary of the Poppy Garden Club, a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, and a former Honorary Board Member for Trinity Ministries, Inc.
